“The goal matters not, only the journey to it.”- Eldest
Lights, camera, action! Movies, malls, actors, hotels, that’s what you would first think when someone mentions Hollywood or Los Angeles, right? Well picture this…Hollywood Hills, the center of attention, where dreams become reality. A boy around 15 years old writes a book, you know, with all the normal stuff. Dragons, elves, magic, etc. Now picture this. The kid gets his book published, it’s a hit, they sell five million copies, and a new star is born. How did it happen? Is it some sort of miracle that this 15-year-old caused a hit sensation to match Elvis, J.K. Rowling, and Call of Duty? No. Now I’ll tell you about this amazing young writer. From when he was in school to his many great accomplishments. Ganga  fram.
“There’s a reason we were born with brains in our heads, not rocks.”-Eragon
Christopher Paolini was born in Los Angeles, California on November 17, 1983, and was raised in Paradise Valley, Montana. His parents are Kenneth Paolini and Talita Hodgkinson and his sister is Angela Paolini. He was home schooled for the duration of his education and graduated from high school at age 15. He had a nice childhood and was introduced to fiction books at an early age. This contributed to his interest in fiction novels, and it may have inspired him to start a career in writing at a younger age than most authors. He is a unique author, and a writer that I look up to.
A helpful trait that Christopher Paolini possesses is that he is not a quitter. It also helps that both of his parents work as publishers and editors. This helped him because having two people around who have been publishing and editing books for years makes for a good combination when applied to the creative power-house that is Christopher Paolini. At first the Eragon series was just a hobby that took up his spare time. Eventually, though, he decided to go full out and publish the first book. Helpfully, the stepson of author Carl Hiaasen read the book and enjoyed it immensely. Carl Hiaasen gave it to his publisher, Alfred A. Knopf, who worked with the Paolinis to re-do the cover art and maps on the inside of the cover, then publish the book again. He also agreed to help Christopher Paolini write the second book. He has helped him create the whole Inheritance cycle, which includes Eragon, Eldest, Brisingr, and Inheritance.
Christopher Paolini has accomplished much as a young author. He has won two book awards, including the Quill Award for Eldest, and the Rebecca Caudill Young Readers Award for Eragon. Christopher Paolini is different from other authors because he is very young, and while another author’s first book might be rejected, his was accepted. Christopher Paolini’s books have been with me for a while, and I read the last page of Inheritance with a solemn mood. If there is one thing that the Inheritance cycle has taught me, it’s that you should never stop reading. Every “note from the author” that he writes at the end says to never stop reading. I have found within me an insatiable appetite for books, now that I have read his series, books that are good and bad, old and new, mystery and comedy, fiction and non-fiction. I love them all.
Picture this, A 15-year-old boy writes an amazing book. He gets his work of art published, it’s a hit, they sell five million copies, and a new star is born. Sound familiar? It should by now. Hopefully though, Christopher Paolini will not abandon this amazing work of art. So if Christopher Paolini ever picks this up, I’m reminding him that he should always keep writing.
